As the situation continues to deteriorate in the West Bank and Gaza, the Palestinian people continue to find creative ways to stay put on their land (i.e. sumud) despite the worsening conditions. A unique grassroots organization called the Hebron International Resources Network (HIRN) has been trying to enhance the sumud of the Palestinians living in the vicinity of Israeli settlements over the past 7 years. The founder and ex-director of HIRN will be at hand to give examples of such attempts in the Governorates of Hebron and Bethlehem.

Hamed Qawasmeh was born in Kuwait where he grew up before moving to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. Mr. Qawasmeh holds a Master Degree in Political Science from Idaho State University (USA) as well as an International MBA from Bar Ilan University (Israel). He lives in the West Bank city of Hebron with his wife and 5 (soon to be 6) children.
