“The Center of the World is Everywhere: Reflections on journalism; the violence of formulaic, western-centered narratives when documenting elsewhere; and attempts to broaden conceptions of truth.”

Distinguished visitor Allyn Gaestel '09, writer, journalist and photographer interested in human dignity and complexity. At the moment she is thinking about building, broadening and dismantling narratives; hierarchies, continuities of survival, densities of falsities, frameworks for perception, and many other questions. Based in Lagos, Nigeria, she works internationally.

Her writing has appeared in The New Yorker, The Atavist, The New York Times, The Common, The Atlantic, The Los Angeles Review of Books, Moon Man Magazine, Nataal and many others. Her photography has been exhibited internationally, including at The Museum of Contemporary Art in Liepzig, Germany,  Espaco Saracura in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Lagos City Hall in Nigeria.
