Emma Yun '10 

Human Rights Interpreter, United Nations, Switzerland 

Philosophy Major

Emma Yun is a human rights interpreter and social media investigator at the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. Emma routinely travels and interprets for the victims and witnesses of the human rights violations. When not deployed on field missions, Emma is based in Geneva, Switzerland where she carries out fact-findings from open-source materials, including from social media platforms. Recently, Emma led the investigation of hate-speech on Facebook in Myanmar. Born and raised in Myanmar (Burma), Emma first became an interpreter through the training course from the International Rescue Committee, a refugee-resettlement agency, where she worked for 2 years. Later, Emma worked for Transperfect Translations, and then as a self-employed contract translator and interpreter. Emma graduated from Haverford College in 2010 with a BA in Philosophy. Since graduation, Emma has lived in New York City, Vancouver, Berlin, and Geneva.
