Scott Wade, Pennsylvania state coordinator of the champion tree program, will introduce you to some of the largest trees of their species in Pennsylvania. Champion trees are determined by a point system based on three measurements and the largest known measured specimen of its genus and species gets to wear the crown of State Champion. Scott will discuss this fascinating program including measuring techniques and local champions. He will also answer any questions you may have about this fun and educational outdoor hobby, big tree hunting!

This event is a partnership between Haverford College Arboretum, the Hardy Plant Society, and the Henry Foundation. At 1:00 p.m. there will be a free tree tour given by a Haverford College Arboretum horticulturist. The lecture then begins at 2:00 p.m. in Sharpless Auditorium, followed by a reception
